Brooklyn: Always lookng fashion−forward

Fugghedabout Paris, Milan and London – it’s Brooklyn that has the fashionistas swooning this summer.

The borough’s cream of the designing crop exhibited their seasonal jewels during the annual “Fashion on Fulton & Friends” fundraiser at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), 30 Lafayette Avenue.

The celebrated urban arts center morphed into a world−class runway as local talent joined forces for the style showcase to benefit Brooklyn Community Housing and Services (BCHS), which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year as a local provider of supportive housing and services to the homeless.

In addition, BCHS honored five local notables for their support.

The honorees were: Mo Vaughn and Eugene Schneur, of Omni New York LLC, for providing “expertly managed” affordable housing in underserved areas with a focus on the social aspect of community revitalization; Vahap Avsar and Lexy Funk, of Brooklyn Industries, a fashion label and design company whose credo, ‘Live, Work, Create’ reflects the “innovative and affirming spirit” of the urban artist; and Elise Long, of Spoke the Hub community performing center, who produces a rainbow of artistic works with a diverse range of performers, from newborn through octogenarian.
