Commerce Bank announced the recipients of its annual American Dream Scholarship program, which awards $1,000 to local graduating seniors who achieve both academic excellence and serve the community.
Commerce Bank gave scholarships to Brooklyn residents:
· Annie Cassone, who graduated from Saint Saviour High School. Cassone plans to attend Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, and major in physical therapy (biology). Throughout her high school career, Cassone was active in the National Honor Society and yearbook club, and a volunteer at both the Food Pantry and Esopus Adult Camp for adults with developmental disabilities.
· Scott Gordon, who graduated from James Madison High School. Gordon plans to attend State University of New York College at Geneseo in Geneseo, NY, and major in science. Throughout his high school career, Gordon was active in the National Honor Society and received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award from the University of Rochester.
· Christina Kennedy, who graduated from Bishop Kearney High School. Kennedy plans to attend Boston College, in Boston, MA, and major in accounting/finance. Throughout high school, Kennedy was vice president of the Key Club and president of speech team, a finalist in Marymount Manhattan College essay contest, and class valedictorian.
· Anthony Liatsis, who graduated from Xaverian High School. Liatsis plans to attend Stanford College in Stanford, CA, and major in psychology. Throughout high school, Liatsis was actively involved in student government, the psychology club, and theatre, and was a recipient of the St. Francis Xavier award.
The American Dream Scholarships Program awarded scholarships to 225 community service-oriented high school seniors within the bank’s market area of more than 470 stores. Commerce donated $225,000 in scholarship dollars this year. Nearly 7,000 students sought scholarships from the program.
