A world title and Brooklyn bragging rights will be on the line when champion Danny Jacobs finally steps into the ring with Peter Quillin.

Jacobs, the World Boxing Association middleweight champion, called out his friend and former world titleholder Quillin after he beat Sergio Mora on Aug. 1, and he’ll get his wish on Dec. 5 when Quillin faces him at Barclays Center in a fight that will be shown live on Showtime.

Jacobs is from Brownsville and Quillin is a Downtown resident, making this a true battle of the borough.

“There is no doubt this is going to be one of the biggest fights Brooklyn has ever seen,” said Jacobs. “Me and Peter go back a long time, but this is business. I’m the champion and he’s the challenger. I’m going to do everything I can to win on Dec. 5 and show the world that I’m the best Brooklyn has to offer.”

A victory will allow Jacobs, a cancer survivor, to continue his rise up the rankings. He will be fighting at Barclays Center for the fifth time and making his third title defense.

Quillin, on the other hand, is trying to get back on top. He won the World Boxing Organization title in 2014, but relinquished it because of the birth of his son and the death of his uncle. Quillin is coming off a draw against current World Boxing Organization champ Andy Lee and a knockout of Michael Zerafa on Sept. 12. Quillin wants to lay claim to Jacob’s belt and the borough.

“The fans have waited a long time for this fight and now its finally here,” said Quillin. “I was back in the gym on Monday after my fight against Zerafa preparing for Dec. 5. I know there is so much at stake for me — a belt and Brooklyn bragging rights. It’s going to be a night to remember for me and for all of Brooklyn.”

The matchup is one between two fighters with tremendous power, who are almost never sent to the mat themselves. The pair has a combined 62 wins and 50 knockouts. Jacobs’s lone defeat came all the way back in 2010, and Quillin has never been beaten.

“This is a can’t-miss, pick’em fight between two of the best middleweights in the world,” said Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment. “This is truly the battle of Brooklyn, with both Danny and Peter possessing the power to create fireworks in an explosive night.”
