Canarsie history enthralls locals

The parade simply wasn’t enough for local patriots, who filled up on national pride at the Canarsie History Museum where a history fair paid further tribute to America’s war heroes.

The Memorial Day showcase drew mom, dad and the kids to the archive inside the American Legion Hall, Conklin Avenue and East 92nd Street, where they viewed an extensive military display and exhibit of war time memorabilia, some of it loaned by area residents.

“Some of it was used in actual battle,” said Museum Founder Ramon Martinez said, adding the museum was chartered in 2002 by the state Department of Education, but is still seeking a permanent location.

The exhibit also featured transit, fire and community history.
