Two people were killed in Canarsie this weekend in separate slayings, police announced.
The weekend of blood began on Friday when cops were called to a basement apartment on East 93rd Street near Avenue K, where a 28-year-old man was found shot to death.
Police said that the victim, identified as Barry Haynes, was found lying facedown in the living room with a gunshot wound to the head.
He died at the scene, officials said.
Sources said that Haynes was an unemployed construction worker who was living with his sister in the basement apartment. Their apartment was in a home owned by Haynes’ mother.
Cops had yet to release a motive.
Two days later, cops were called to East 102nd Street behind the Bayview Houses, where a clash between two groups ended with a 29-year-old being stabbed in the neck.
Police said that Ramel Fletcher, a resident of Rockaway Parkway, was hanging out with his friends at 12:30 a.m. when they began arguing with another group of males.
The two crews were reportedly arguing over a “female acquaintance” that they both reportedly knew.
As the two groups fought, someone pulled a knife and jammed it into Fletcher’s neck, officials said.
The crowd dispersed and paramedics took Fletcher to Brookdale Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police do not believe that the incidents are related.
At press time, investigators from the 69th Precinct said that they have not made an arrest in either killing, the fifth and sixth slayings to take place in Canarsie this year.
