Whirling dervishes, folklore teams and mouthwatering cuisine whetted the appetites of revelers, who headed to Prospect Park for a taste of “Turkish days in New York.”
The week-long celebration of Turkic and Balkan cultures kicked off at Nethermead Field, near 16th Street and Prospect Park Southwest, where crowd-pleasers included performances by world-famous Ottoman Band “Mehter” and a Turkish military band hailing from Istanbul.
Custom-designed booths modeled after the souks and grand bazaars of Eastern Europe, educational exhibits and vendor booths added to the spectacle.
