CHSAA baseball round-up: Undefeated Xaverian rolls on

Justin Giammarino pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, to pick up the win as Xaverian scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning en route to a 6-1 win at Monsignor McClancy Tuesday afternoon.

Anthony Hajjar was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Alex Maldonado had two hits and two RBIs for Xaverian (6-0 CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens A), which plays its next league game against McClancy (3-2 CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens A) at Keyspan Park on Monday.

Mount St. Michael 15, LaSalle 5: Mike Iglesias went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs, Brandon Dauo was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Noel Santana improved to 2-0, allowing five runs on three hits with six walks in four innings for Mount (6-2 CHSAA Bronx/Westchester A) in a curfew-shortened, five-inning game.

The Mountaineers, who have won four consecutive games, take on Fordham Prep at Houlihan Park at 6 p.m. Wednesday. LaSalle is now 0-5 in Bronx/Manhattan.

Fordham Prep 7, Cardinal Hayes 2: Ryan Fedak gave up two runs in six innings and Sean Schenk gave up one run in the seventh to close out the game for Fordham Prep (4-1 Bronx/Westchester A). George Perrotta had two hits, Jesus Jaile had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Rams. Cardinal Hayes fell to 2-3 in Bronx/Manhattan A.

St. Raymond's 15, Cardinal Spellman 0: Louis Paniagua was 2-for-4 with one RBI, Chris Munoz was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Angel Ramos was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Julio Eusebio struck out three in three innings to get the win for St. Raymond's (5-3 CHSAA Bronx/Manhattan A). Cardinal Spellman is now 2-5 in Bronx/Westchester.

St. Joseph by the Sea 6, Moore Catholic 4 (eight innings): Nick Pavia went the distance, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, striking out seven with two walks to help lead St. Joseph by the Sea past Staten Island rival Moore Catholic Wednesday at the Richmond County Youth Complex in Travis.

Pavia also led off the seventh inning with a double, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch by Dillon McNamara, who allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits, striking out 12 with four walks in 6 1/3 innings. Chris Ahearn and Tom Todaro each doubled and drove in a pair or runs apiece for Moore (2-4 CHSAA Staten Island A).

Chris Conklin followed with an RBI single to send the game into extra innings. A wild pitch by reliever James Andersen allowed Pete Amerosi to score and Joe Battaglia added an insurance run on a double steal for Sea, which improved to 4-2 in the league.

Iona Prep 2, Regis 0: John Devaney picked up the win and Colin Moran escaped a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning to help lift Iona Prep (3-3 CHSAA Bronx/Westchester A). Regis is now 3-3 in Bronx/Manhattan.

CHSAA CLASS B

Cathedral Prep 7, Monsignor Scanlan 4: Joe Santora had a pair of hits, Mike Knott pitched six strong innings and twin Matt Knott closed it out to earn the save for Cathedral Prep (3-0 CHSAA ‘B’). Scanlan fell to 2-2.
