Clones win a 14-4 laugher

Muckdogs 4

Cyclones 20

Thursday, Aug. 5 at MCU Park

The Cyclones offense put up awesome numbers in this mauling of the Muckdogs, ensuring that starter Chris Hilliard won his seventh game, despite not having his best stuff.

Twenty hits. Two homers. Five doubles.

Darrell Ceciliani, who is trying to become the first player to hit .400 in the New York-Penn League since 1971, was the offensive star, going 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs. He raised his average to .382.

League-leading four-bagger Cory Vaughn also added a home run, his 11th.

Both dingers game in a three-run first inning.

The Cyclones added single runs in the third and fourth, but the big inning came in the fifth, when the Clones scored five, thanks to five consecutive hits.

In the sixth, Joe Bonfe’s double knocked in two to put the exclamation mark on this laugher.

Hilliard (7–1, 4.50 ERA) was responsible for all four runs in his five innings, but the Cyclone pen closed out the game with only three hits and no runs.

The next Cyclones home game is tonight at 7 pm against the Batavia Muckdogs at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 19th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497]. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
