Looking for a place to ship your packages worldwide while also checking out a film screening, play video games, or listen in on an acclaimed DJ series?
Sandbox (257 Grand Street) is expanding beyond its packaging and shipping mission to utilize a multipurpose room in the building’s basement level.
Dreamed up by Park Slope native Omar Donaldson, Sandbox will screen foreign films on February 12, comedies on February 19, and independent works from Brooklyn-based filmmakers on February 26, with all screenings beginning at 9 pm.
In addition, the 1,000 square foot space will host a live DJ set on Saturday nights to coincide with video game night. Did we mention there are five LCD televisions, two Xboxes, a Wii and a 160-inch television screen?
“The idea came from seeing the nightlife traffic in the area. As a business owner I wanted to be a part of that,” said Donaldson. “People of all ages can enjoy kicking back, relaxing, watching a movie or playing games. I want people around to feel comfortable so that they can rely on us to handle anything from shipping to copy jobs to office supplies, as well as be an alternative, to kick back and relax, to the bar scene. A place just to be yourself.”
