Snatcher in shackles
Cops collared a man who allegedly swiped jewelry from a Fifth Avenue store on Aug. 11.
Police believe the suspect entered the store between 84th and 85th streets in Bay Ridge at 3:20 pm and asked to see a pair of diamond earrings. The man allegedly fled with the $1,927 in gemstones in hand, police said. The proprietor chased the man down the street yelling, “He just stole jewelry from me,” and a nearby police officer responded to the fracas, reports state.
The alleged thief jumped into a double-parked car, and his female driver allegedly rammed the responding officer’s car before fleeing, law enforcement sources said. Officers stopped the defendants a couple blocks from the location, reports state.
Break-ins on rise
Agile burglars climbed through the rear windows of two residences in Dyker Heights and stole jewelry and cash in one week. Here’s the rundown:
• The first indecent went down inside of a 63rd Street home on Aug. 15.
The burglar made his way into the home between 11th and 12th Avenues through a rear kitchen window sometime between 6 and 10 pm, taking $600 in jewelry and $2,000 cash.
• The next day, on Aug. 16, someone took $800 in jewelry from a 13th Avenue home, reports state.
The perp scrambled in through a rear window in the house, which sits between Bay Ridge Avenue and 76th Street, sometime between 1 pm and 7:15 pm, police said.
Packing heat
A pair of brutes robbed a man at gun- and knife-point on 66th Street on Aug. 17.
The victim was sitting in his car between Eighth and Ninth avenues on the border of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights when the dastardly duo approached him and drew their weapons, police said.
The gunman kept the driver covered while the blade-wielding bandit reached into their victim’s pocket and stole $3,100, reports state. The pair fled on a motorcycle, police said.
