Energized BK Activists put cancer on the run

An overnight party with a purpose drew mom, dad and the kids to Bay Ridge where they paid tribute to cancer victims and survivors at the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Relay for Life benefit.

The 10th annual marathon fundraiser – a national signature event for the ACS – drew big-hearted Brooklynites and others to the Fort Hamilton Athletic Field, Colonial Road and Narrows Avenue, where they walked the track in relay style to raise funds for cancer research.

Teams of individuals representing corporations, clubs, neighborhoods, churches, families and cancer patients were among the participants,

The benefit culminated with a ceremony during which illuminated lumineria bags, inscribed with names of deceased loved ones were placed around the track.

Since 1985, Relay for Life has spread to more than 4,700 communities, nationwide and has become a worldwide movement in 20 countries around the world.
