July 31, 8 pm.

My name is Maxim Ibadov, I am Team Leader for the nightlife collective We Together. I am reaching out today in light of recent developments surrounding racism, discrimination, and other abuses of power at various nightlife venues such as The Q, Motel 23, Rise, and others. We are teaming up with a growing list of collectives and community leaders to host ART RIOT, at 3 Dollar Bill on July 31st at 8:00 pm. This would be an educational town-hall style event to respond to the current situation by supporting and platforming the artists that were hurt by workplace discrimination (including those who lost gigs at the above-mentioned clubs); bringing awareness to issues that are plaguing our community such as racism, misogyny, transphobia, fatphobia, etc; and coming up with concrete solutions, suggestions, and visions we would like to see implemented in nightlife.

Hosted by Neon Calypso, and beats by DJ Senerio, the evening would consists of performances, appearances and speeches by the following artists and collectives: Aveq Moi, CEECA LGBTQIA+, Chartruice, Chico Raro & House of Mounstras, G.L.I.T.S., Julie J, LGBT+ Chechnya, Nicky O, Paperboy Prince, Rify Royalty, & The POC Drag Arts Collective and more! There will be two panels. One will be “Drag Kings and Things”, moderated by Tuna Melt, and featuring drag performers Klondyke, Themme, Lucky Pierre. The other panel would be on “Being Trans and BIPOC in Nightlife”, moderated by C’était BonTemps, and featuring Thee Suburbia, Angel Au, Mariyea, and more. There will also be a discussion of upcoming short documentary We The Collective, “centered on NYC’s nightlife economy and the black and brown LGBTQ+ people who call it home” with the executive producer Kevin Satterfield

The event would be attended by the Senior Executive Director of NYC’ Mayor’s Office of Nightlife Ariel Palitz, former City Council candidate and drag activist Marti G Cummings and other prominent members of our community.
