Cornegy, Jr. will bring together bands, DJs, Divine 9 fraternities and sororities, and HBCU college resources and information. The Battle of the Bands will feature performances by bands, step teams, and DJs alongside information about HBCUs. The event plans to honor homecoming while upholding public health measures including practicing social distancing and requiring masks.

In advance of the Battle of the Bands, Council Member Cornegy said, “The time for silence is over. It is time for a joyful noise. If you haven’t gone to an HBCU, then you have not experienced the energy of being on the Yard. Since Brooklyn is such a huge African-American hub, it’s time to bring the Yard here. If you need inspiration after 18 months of Covid-19, these bands will uplift your soul. If you want to change the narrative of the African-American community, then these young artists will show you that we have the best and brightest right here in Central Brooklyn. We are here. We are proud. Get ready for Battle of the Bands 2021!”

CM Cornegy extends his thanks to all the dancers, musicians, DJs, community partners, and HBCUs making the day’s event possible especially: Brownsville Excellence Marching Band, Brooklyn United, Empire Elite marching band and Brooklyn Alliance Drumline; DoorDash; DJ Jon Quick, The Legendary Chris Washington, DJ P-Drama and DJ Play Dat; Hampton University, Lincoln University, Clark Atlanta University, North Carolina A&T, Grambling University, Shaw University and Spelman College.
