Creekers Jamboree Featuring the Wifetime
Our Creekers Jamboree program celebrates Roots and Americana music on the last Saturday of every month this Summer! This month, Wifetime who started as an accident will bring music to Gowanus. Clamoring for a pickup band to fill a local bar slot, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, Andrea Asprelli, and Sam Dallas found themselves playing music together for the first time. While feeling out what tunes they might know, it became quickly apparent that their voices were primed for three part harmony. Since then, they’ve been filling bars and back rooms across Brooklyn with songs from the Carter Family, traditional bluegrass, and their original songs. [ Tickets ]
Olivia and Andrea are talented songwriters in their own right; Lloyd’s debut album Loose Cannon premiered to critical acclaim in February 2021 and Asprelli’s project Cricket Tell the Weather was a Freshgrass band contest winner and toured nationally from 2013-2018. Sam can be seen virtually any night of the week backing bands up with her solid bass chops and lilting soprano; she plays a range of bluegrass, rock and americana across the city in numerous projects.
In the mid 1800s, Creekers & Pointers were terms used for rival gangs of the Roosters, a band of thugs that frequented South Brooklyn and Gowanus. This season, the Gowanus Dredgers are reconnecting Gowanus regulars and visitors with events at our Canal. We hope to offer Saturday voyages before shows south of the active EPA cleanup (location : TBD) but stop by our boathouse for some hootin’ good times as the sun sets.
It’s free to attend but donations are encouraged and reservations at $10 are available for the front two rows & one complimentary beverage.
If raining, event will be hosted in The Gowanus Dredgers’ Boathouse with open doors for ventilation. Attendees may be required to provide proof of vaccination (physical/digital card or Excelsior pass) and a corresponding photo ID. We kindly ask that you not attend the event if you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or you have recently come into close contact (within six feet for more than fifteen minutes) with someone infected with COVID-19.
