Emerald Futures: NYPhilharmonic VYC x Chromic Duo
About this event
Please download Gesso (available for iOS + Google Play) and have headphones ready beforehand. https://www.gesso.app/download
To recognize and celebrate the transition into a post-pandemic world, Emerald Futures is an AR soundwalk that guides you through a year of transformation and growth, from Central Park (W. 72nd St + Central Park West) to Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya’s mural, “We Belong Here” , in response to the rise of anti-AAPI hate.
Immerse yourself in an evolving soundworld that changes according to your geographic location, as you listen to world premieres of pieces by the Very Young Composers. With GPS hotspots plotted along the route, site-specific pieces will play as you move from one contrasting natural soundscape into a future imagined by the next generation of composers + thinkers on a future that we believe in.
Celebrate the launch with timed group walks at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, 7:30 pm ET.
Duration: ~30 minutes

About the Performers + Creative Directors: Chromic Duo
Chromic Duo blends classical music, toy piano, and electronics into genre fluid performances and installations. Inspired by the small wonders of the everyday, they compose soundworlds inspired by the multitudes as Third-Culture-Kids discovering their voice within the vast Asian American diaspora. Their work often blurs the lines between film, VR, and AR, but the heart of their work remains constant: to create an intimacy and sense of wonder in their music that unravels the story of self-discovery and passion for connecting the dots between grief and joy, belonging and displacement, and creating community in boundary pushing performances and web based experiences.
Chromic is Lucy Yao and Dorothy Chan. They are prize-winners at the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) and Concert Artists Guild (CAG) International Auditions in 2021.
