‘Song Cycle Gowanus’ Participatory Art Project

Songs We Sing Gowanus IG graphic
June 17, 5:30 pm7 pm.

In this interactive happening and audio installation by artist Elizabeth Demaray, human participants vocalize various bird calls to create a soundscape imitating the natural world.
According to naturalist E.O. Wilson, half of the Earth’s species will become extinct in the next 100 years. This piece ponders that future lack of companion species and offers a solution: In this new world, humans may have to create fictional “natural” environments to experience the calm and beauty our companion species once provided.
Go to Eventbrite to get a free ticket to the June 17th event at Atelier Canal. Arrive at 5:30 p.m. to enjoy a glass of wine while checking out the works for sale, and then join with artist Elizabeth Demaray and other participants in a live chorus of human bird calls at 6 p.m.

This event is part of the GARDEN PARTY Summer Salon, curated by Ellen Sturm Niz. Open from June 2 to June 25, this shoppable salon features more than 20 talented artists and makers from Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.
