Make Music New York!
The call was issued to the faithful in Flatbush, who responded with good spirit – not to mention oodles of talent – during a block party and music extravaganza at Newkirk Plaza.
The revel, part of a citywide free music event of the same name, ignited the nation’s oldest pedestrian mall, Newkirk Avenue, off East 16th Street, featuring a cornucopia of performers, whose styles ranged from soul and hip-hop to gospel, techno-jazz and rock.
Spoken word artists added to the afternoon of music, presented by the Flatbush Development Corporation, the Flatbush Avenue and the Flatbush Nostrand Junction business improvement districts.
Elsewhere on the avenue, neighbors sang along and cemented their friendship at a block party as part of the summer kick-off in Flatbush.
