GALLOP gala showcases riders’ talents

Join GALLOP for a day in Prospect Park, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 21, as GALLOP students — riders whose disabilities include autism, down syndrome, CP, and emotional and learning disabilities — will be showcasing the riding skills they have learned throughout the past year. Spectators can meet a horse or pony and learn about horses, GALLOP, and horseback riding from the students.

The day will commence with an award ceremony with ribbons bestowed by honorary judges, Assemblyman Jim Brennan, Deputy Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Prospect Park Alliance President Tupper Thomas, and Park Accessibility Coordinator Victor Calise. Additionally, the Prospect Park Zoo will offer a free horse craft for kids to make, and refreshments and riding gear will be for sale.

GALLOP volunteers will be joined by volunteers from Goldman Sachs’ Community Teamworks program and students at ICD, the International Center for Disabilities. Horses will be provided by Kensington Stables.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Kensington Stables, 51 Caton Place.
