Alyson Caiazzo knocked down a jumper with five seconds left to give St. Saviour the lead for good.
After a miss by Fontbonne Hall, Caiazzo stepped to the line and made one of two free throws to give St. Saviour a 47-44 win in the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan Division II girls’ basketball tournament quarterfinals at Bishop Loughlin Tuesday night. The No. 4 Pandas (11-5) move on to play No. 1 and undefeated St. John’s Prep in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Prep.
Caiazzo finished with 18 points for the defending champions. Point guard Stephanie Hvala added 11 and Melissa DelArosa added eight. Ashley Schirripa led No. 5 Fontbonne with 19 points. Jennifer Miller scored 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had three blocks for No. 3 Stella Maris, which led 31-18 at the half. Eliana Howell had 14 points and 15 rebounds and Ashley Raaf had 15 points, four steals and four assists. Danielle Moses led No. 6 McAuley with 21 points. Stella Maris plays No. 2 Ariel Gotay had 17 points, 10 steals, four rebounds and four assists for the No. 2 Lions. Tiffany Benjamin added 16 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks and Ayanna Battle had 14 points, five blocks four rebounds and four assists. Moni Smith Ocran had 18 points and Nikkei Goodman had 12 for No. 14 Clinton (7-8), which will play at No. 3 Manhattan Center in the second round March 3.
