Good food, without the pretentiousness

Fugghedabout the Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center, borough−faithful bon vivants savored less pretentious – if as delectable – fare at the Unfancy Food Show in Williamsburg, where close to 20 exhibitors showcased their mouthwatering morsels for a louder and less uptight crowd.

More than 1,000 gastronomes packed the East River Bar and an adjacent side yard on South 6th Street, between Bedford Avenue and Berry Street, where for five dollars apiece they pressed flesh with fellow foodies and teased their tastebuds on tempting organic, farm−fresh and locally−produced goodies − from crisp, exotic offerings of Mama O’s Kimchee and dill and garlic wonders of McClure’s Pickles to handpies from Sweet Deliverance, sandwiches from Marlow & Sons and some serious cheese from the Cellars at Jasper Hill, which mature the food in a 2,000 square−foot cave.

Hedonist hipsters indulged their sweet tooth on dairy and sugar free ice−cream from local vendor Van Leeuwen and artisanal treats from Williamsburg’s Liddabit Sweets as part of the annual borough−proud food showcase, sponsored by brooklynbased.com.
