In celebration of Lutheran HealthCare’s 125th anniversary and to generate awareness among Brooklyn’s youth about the importance of good health, Lutheran held a unique essay contest: “What Does Good Health Mean to Me?”
Students within Lutheran Family Health Centers’ school health program were asked to explain how health services affect their lives and the lives of those around them, with questions such as: What would Brooklyn families do without health programs? What would happen to the borough or city if people did not have access to care?
The contest was open to students in eighth grade. The grand prize winner across all participating schools was Mohammad Farhan of IS 220, 4812 Ninth Avenue, who received $125.
Other contest winners from IS 220 included Djenne Langhorn in second place with an iPod shuffle, Rifat Iqbal in third place with a $50 Barnes & Nobles gift card, and an honorable mention going to Tohidul Islam for his creativity and effort.
The winner from IS 88, 544 Seventh Avenue, was Karen Tiatelpa and the winner from MS 313, 209 York Street, was Nequai Nipper, each of whom received an iPod shuffle.
