Now in its fourth year of providing non-denominational learning while promoting a modern approach to their ancient religion, the Institute of Living Judaism in Brooklyn will present “Goodstock,” June 22 from 12-5:30 p.m. at the Kane Street Synagogue, 236 Kane Street in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn.
This volunteer outreach program, inspired by the Jewish tradition of tikkun olam (repairing the world), will offer Brooklynites an afternoon of natural foods, music, information and workshops about volunteer and community service opportunities in the Jewish community.
“Goodstock” was conceived and coordinated by ILJB under the leadership of its president and founder, Howard Honigman, and is co-sponsored by the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services (JBFCS) and Kane Street Synagogue.
JBFCS programs that will be represented are: The Bikur Cholim Coordinating Council, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, CheeRing and JACS (Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependent Persons and Significant Others).
Other participating organizations will include: The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, Jewish World Watch, Hazon, American Jewish World Service, Jewish Foundation for the Righteous, Halachic Organ Donor Society, New Israel Fund.
