For the fourth year in a row, Piper Theatre Company will make its summer home at the Old Stone House in Park Slope’s Washington Park, Third Street at Fifth Avenue.
This year, the company presents William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” directed by John P. McEneny, in repertory with Tom Stoppard’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead,” directed by Thomas Hoagland.
Performances are as follows: “Hamlet,” July 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 at 8 p.m. and July 26 at 2 p.m.; “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead,” July 12, 19 and 26 at 8 p.m. All performances are free and outdoors; audience members are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics to the park, or take advantage of the many restaurants along Fifth Avenue. There is also a small concession stand in the park.
The Old Stone House is a 1930s era reconstruction of the Vechte−Cortelyou House, a 1699 Dutch stone farmhouse. Located in Washington Park⁄JJ Byrne Playground, OSH is a historic interpretive center dedicated to its crucial role in the American Revolution and in the evolving histories of Brooklyn, New York and the United States, as well as an active community cultural site and presenting organization that supports established and emerging artists.
