On Sunday, July 20, JDub Records will be celebrating its fifth birthday in style, with a free concert and party in Prospect Park.
“It’s a retrospective, but also a look at the future,” said Emily Goldsher, one of the concert’s organizers. “This is our opportunity to show people what JDub Records is about.”
Indeed, between the bands — Golem, a klezmer band that “likes to cause a ruckus,” according to Goldsher, and Soulico, a Tel-Aviv-based reggae act — and the talent — Fort Greene comic Michael Showalter (pictured, currently starring in “The Michael Showalter Showalter” at www.collegehumor.com) — the audience will see exactly what JDub is all about: Jewish music, big laughs and loads of fun.
The party favors at this birthday bash include free downloads of the label’s music and surprise guests on stage. But if you want cake, you’re on your own.
JDub’s fifth anniversary party kicks off at 5 pm on July 20 at the Prospect Park band shell (enter park at Prospect Park West and Ninth Street). Admission is free. For information, call (718) 855-7882 or visit www.celebratebrooklyn.org.
