Varsity gridiron gladiators at Abraham Lincoln High School are also dairy kings — thanks to Coach Shawn O’Connor.
Hoop legend John Starks helped O’Connor milk the moment when he gave the sports mentor a greenback boost on Monday for keeping his players in tip-top shape with sound nutrition tips.
The retired shooting guard for the New York Knicks presented O’Connor with a check for $1,000 from Got Milk? Campaign’s Refuel America Grant Program during a visit to the school on Ocean Parkway, between Shore Parkway and West Avenue, in Coney Island.
O’Connor, who received the grant to promote further exercise and nutrition efforts at the school, was recognized for giving his athletes the competitive edge by including dairy products in his football team’s recovery game plan.
“Our athletic program is big on providing nutrition, we give the kids chocolate milk every day after practice,” said Athletic Director Renan Ebeid.
Starks made the presentation in front of the Varsity Football Team.
