Hot guns equal cold hard cash

With the Lord’s help, the streets of Fort Greene will be gun free.

Brown Memorial Baptist Church, 484 Washington Avenue near Gates Avenue, has joined the city’s cash-for-guns program, where anyone from the neighborhood can drop off a firearm and receive $200 — no questions asked.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Kings County District Attorney’s office, is designed to take working guns out of circulation, where they could be used in the commission of a robbery or homicide.

Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes announced the Cash for Guns day during a press conference on Wednesday, explaining that six churches peppered throughout the borough have dedicated their space and time for the one day event on Saturday, July 19.

Officials said that residents can bring their guns, which must be operable and unloaded, to the church between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to receive the $200 bank card.
