They’ll take a “Yassky”?
Councilman David Yassky quickly put his endorsement by Borough President Markowitz this week to good use, releasing a TV ad that will start airing today featuring the effusive Beep likening the Brooklyn Heights Democrat to some of the great institutions in the borough today.
“Brooklyn’s got the best,” Markowitz says. “Junior’s, Nathan’s, Cake Man Raven, Yassky.”
An unidentified woman appears confused. “Yassky? What’s a yassky?”
Markowitz sets her straight: “David Yassky. Running for City Comptroller. He’s my guy.”
A narrator then touts Yassky’s fight against “tax loopholes for developers,” and his effort to get Exxon Mobil to “clean up Greenpoint,” adding that “as Comptroller, Yassky will demand accountability with tough audits of city agencies. The buck will stop with him and he’ll watch every penny.”
The unidentified woman returns and says, “Wow, we’ll take a Yassky.”
Markowitz grins and says, “Me, too.”
The ad, which is also up on YouTube, will run on cable stations in Brooklyn, where Yassky is already well known. The two-term councilman is running against three Queens councilmembers — Melinda Katz, John Liu and David Weprin — in the Sept. 15 Democratic primary.
Yassky was endorsed this week by the New York Times. The Brooklyn Paper endorsement in the race will run in next week’s editions.
