Kids take part in ‘animal education seminar’

Wide-eyed kids from I.S. 218’s Beacon program sat wide-eyed as they were introduced to the four-legged performers of the Coney Island Boom A Ring circus.

Gathered under the circus tent at the corner of West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, children from the East New York school, as well as children participating in this summer’s Police Athletic League program, learned how animal handlers Ramon Esqueda and Heidi Herriott handle creatures large — let’s just say elephant large — and small during what they called an “animal education seminar.”

The fun and informative day coincided with National Dog Day.
