Brooklyn’s budding scribes were hailed for their inspirational masterpieces during an essay contest presented by the Kings County American Legion.
The 17th annual writing competition required public school students to pen their thoughts about drug awareness, followed by an awards ceremony at Floyd Bennett Post 1060, 5601 Avenue N.
The first-place winners were: Ahmet Akyuz, Public School 48, 6015 18th Avenue; Barry K. Henny, Public School 59, 211 Throop Avenue; Niaje Morgan, Public School 236, 6302 Avenue U; and Richard Yudkiss, Public School 179.
The second-place winners were: Nouke Camara and Amy Garcia, Public School 59; Justine Griswold, Public School 48; and Ariella Mella, Public School 205, 6701 20th Avenue.
Third place honors went to: Ruth Ostow, Public School 205; Steven Santiago, Public School 59; and Emily Tan, Public School 48.
Public School 48 student Cristina Antioco received an honorable mention.
