Lions roar: Berkeley Carroll tops St. Ann’s for ACIS crown

Berkeley Carroll hammered home the point: it’s the premier baseball program in the Athletic Conference of Independent Schools (ACIS). The Lions won the rubber match against rival St. Ann’s, winning the ACIS title game, 5-1, at MCU Park in Coney Island on Friday, May 21.

“Now there’s no doubt who the best team is in the ACIS,” Berkeley Carroll coach Wally Paller said.

Sean Cunningham went the entire way, allowing three hits and one earned run in seven innings, and throwing an economical 79 pitches. Robb Paller had two hits, scored two runs, and added a two-run triple in the third, and Andrew Timko drove in an run.

It was the 13th straight season the Park Slope school has either won the regular season crown or postseason tournament and second straight year it has swept both titles.

“It’s a tribute to the commitment the school makes towards baseball, and they appreciate our success,” Paller said.
