Mom, dad and the kids saw their creativity immortalized on concrete when Spread Art celebrated Park(ing) Day by installing a “meditation garden” in Williamsburg, calling upon artsmart locals to bring cheer and relief to Brooklyn’s urban jungle with their own handiwork.
The vibrant oasis along Bedford Avenue, between North 6th and North 7th streets, featured an interactive artist work station, allowing the public to create artwork on site throughout the day as part of an international celebration which reclaims parking spots and temporarily transforms them into “engaging, people-friendly public spaces.”
An installation from Buckminster Fuller Institute, 181 North 11th Street, delivered the eco-friendly lowdown on geodesic building with representatives distributing free fold-up dymaxion globes. The revolutionary map design punches out and folds into a smaller icosahedron globe, illustrating its synergetic geometric principles.
Spread Art, 104 Meserole Street, is an artist-run creative hatchery, designed to nurture new works through collaborations with artists and curators from around the world, and supports emerging artists through group and solo exhibitions.
It is a member of the Williamsburg Gallery Association.
