Meter raider
A parking meter purloiner was busted by police on Graham Avenue on Feb. 7.
Cops said that they were on patrol just before 2 am when they saw a 42-year-old man fidgeting with a parking meter near Varet Street.
Officers said that when they approached, they saw that the man was sticking metal wires into the meters in an attempt to loot them of their quarters.
The suspect was fairly successful, too, according to police: he allegedly had about $10 in quarters on him when he was taken into custody, charged with possession of burglar’s tools, criminal tampering, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
Ticketed and truculent
A man was arrested for temporarily restraining an officer who wrote him a parking ticket on Feb. 9.
Police say that the 41-year-old scofflaw had left his vehicle at a bus stop on Wallabout Street between Kent and Bedford avenues at 10:30 am. Within a few minutes, a scooter cop rolled by, and started writing a ticket.
The man objected and reportedly grabbed the cop, who continued doing his duty. But after finishing the ticket, the cop turned to leave, but the suspect would not let him go.
The officer soon got the upper hand and collared the scofflaw, charging him with obstructing governmental administration.
Flaming buses
Fire marshal are trying to find the person who set fire to three school buses on Rodney Street on Jan. 23.
Cops said that the would-be arsonist unscrewed the gas caps of the three vehicles and inserted gasoline-soaked rags as the buses sat near Marcy Avenue at 4 am.
He then lit the rags on fire, but the fires did not cause any serious damage to the buses.
The arsonist remains at large.
