‘Mom, this was the best night of my life’

‘Mom, this was the best night of my life’

It’s done, the planning, the anticipation, the excitement – fini – it was the party of the century. At the end of the evening, my now mature, grown-up 16-year-old squealed with the delight of a six-year-old opening up a new Polly Pocket set, “Mom, this was the best night of my life,” she exclaimed, as she ripped off the dress, tore off the eyelashes and slowly transformed back into the child that we knew.

At 2 in the morning, there we were, sitting at the kitchen table, shocked that we had pulled it off and amazed that we were still standing, well sitting, but you get the drift.

As with all parties, the host and hostess (Bob and myself) are usually too busy with all the details to really enjoy themselves, but I’ve got to say, we enjoyed ourselves as much as our guests did.

Since the world survived a week without me, I would like to  take the opportunity to thank the DJ, Partners In Sound, who got everybody on the dance floor and Steve, the general manager of the Grand Plaza, who made sure that every detail was perfection, from the cocktail hour all the way up to the dessert bar, complete with waffles, ice cream, cookies, cake and pastry. We all felt like royalty. Without their talents and professionalism, the party would not have been the success it was nor half as much fun.

And to all the family and friends, an even bigger and very sincere thank you for celebrating with us and making this truly  a “Super Sweet 16.”

You know, it’s been almost a week and my toes are still throbbing. Not for nuthin’, but I really think it’s time that I take a vacation.
