The 63rd Precinct wants you to help keep cops under control.
Lieutenant Robert Haley, who handles special operations for the 63rd Precinct, told residents they should contact him if they interact with cops who are unhelpful, rude, or disrespectful.
He offered his assistance after residents at a Marine Park Civic Association meeting complained that they’ve had combative encounters with local police officers.
A Kimball Street resident who would only reveal his first name, Shaun, told Haley that his precinct is plagued by “incompetence.”
“It’s gotta stop,” he asserted.
Shaun said he’s waited several hours for cops to arrive at his house after calling in complaints of double-parked cars.
“Unless there’s a crime wave in Marine Park, I can’t see a reason for a four-hour wait time,” he said.
And when officers arrived, Shaun said they disagreed about whether the cars were actually blocking his driveway.
There were other complaints that when calls are placed to the precinct, officers have said they’re too “busy” to deal with residents’ issues.
“If you get a response like that, get a name, get a shield number,” Haley said.
He also suggested asking to speak to a supervisor.
“Any time you have an interaction that doesn’t go favorably, call me or email me,” Haley said.
“I definitely want to look into these situations where officers are not handling the situation properly,” he said.
“You have my apologies,” he told Shaun.
Marine Park Civic Association President Greg Borruso said Haley could be counted on to address residents’ complaints about improper treatment from police.
“He’s a man of his word and when he says something, he’ll do it. If not, we’ll beat him up the next time he comes back,” Borruso joked.
