NBA great is a slam dunk with P.S. 207 students

Retired professional hoopster Albert King Star and Nets team mascot Slyfox received a slam-dunk of a welcome when they visited Public School 207 to promote the written word as part of the National Basketball Association’s ‘Read to Achieve’ literacy campaign.

The veteran player, who played in nine NBA seasons for four different teams – including for the Nets and the San Antonio Spurs – showed fine form as a motivator as he boosted students in the gymnasium of the school, 4011 Fillmore Avenue, and read a book entitled, “I’ll Teach My Dog 100 Words,” with improvisation by his furry sidekick.

The NBA’s Read to Achieve program is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly to children.
