Starting Artists, Inc., a new nonprofit arts center that benefits Brooklyn middle and high school students through training in arts & entrepreneurship, is hosting a neighborhood tag sale, the first fundraiser of the 2008/2009 school year.
The tag sale will be held September 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, at Starting Artists headquarters, 211 Smith Street at Baltic Street.
Members of the surrounding Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens neighborhoods are welcome to drop off donations at 211 Smith Street, Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 6 pm.
Proceeds from the indoor/outdoor sale of books, clothing, accessories, electronics, housewares, and sporting goods will benefit the programs of the organization.
Starting Artists, Inc. recently renovated and started on-site programming at its new 211 Smith St. storefront in Cobble Hill. The 1,700 square foot space includes a gallery, photo studio, media lab, garden, classroom, and office space.
SA’s after school programs serve teenagers by providing hands-on instruction in various media, including digital photography, silk-screen, and graphic design, utilizing industry-standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & Flash.
In addition, SA exposes youth to local artists and business leaders through workshops, lectures, and visits to NYC arts institutions.
