Tragic death
A newborn died moments after being born inside a Coney Island apartment on Feb. 7 — and the baby’s 14-year-old mother could be to blame.
Police said the teen, a resident of W. 31st Street between Mermaid and Surf avenues, was rushed to Coney Island Hospital at 5:50 am for bleeding, but doctors soon learned she had just given birth.
Cops were dispatched to the teen’s home, where they found a dead newborn discarded in the trash.
It remained unclear how the baby died by late Tuesday.
iPad swipe
A thug ran off with a woman’s iPad on Jan. 26 after he saw her tinkering with the computer tablet on a D train rumbling through Bensonhurst.
The victim got off the train at the 18th Avenue station at 85th Street at 1:10 am and was walking down New Utrecht Avenue when the thief grabbed the bag containing the pricey computer.
“Give me the iPad or I will stab you,” the thief said before swiping the bag and running off down New Utrecht Avenue.
Mugged on New Utrecht
A Traffic Enforcement Agent was beaten and mugged as he headed to work on New Utrecht Avenue and 77th Street on Jan. 26.
The victim was approaching the 18th Avenue train station at 12:30 am when two goons attacked him, punching him in the face.
Sinful steal
A thief broke into a 76th Street apartment on Feb. 3 as his victim attended church.
The 28-year-old woman returned to her home, which is between 17th and 18th avenues, at 5:35 pm to find that someone had swiped her credit cards and an assortment of electronic items.
Shot in the neck
A gunman opened fire on a Coney Island Avenue businessman on Feb. 5, hitting him in the neck.
The victim told police that he had just left his business, which is between Avenues X and Y, at 3:35 am and was heading toward his car when he stepped into the gunman’s sights.
The bullet pierced his neck, leaving a minor injury, police said.
11-year-old hit
A wayward motorist struck an 11-year-old boy on Knapp Street on Feb. 3 — then kept on going.
Witnesses said that the child was between Avenues W and X at 3:15 pm when the light blue Mercedes Benz struck him.
The injured child tried to follow the luxury car as it made its escape, but soon gave up the chase and flag an approaching police van.
Cops took the child to Coney Island Hospital for treatment.
Keg kiter
Meet a booze loving clean up crew: A group of thieves removed four empty beer kegs sitting behind a Emmons Avenue Applebee’s on Jan. 31.
Workers at the eatery, which is between Bedford Avenue and E. 26th Street, said that the kegs were stolen at about 4:30 pm — possibly from someone hoping to cash in on the deposit.
Tre take
A thief broke into the Tre Fratelli Deli on Avenue Z on Feb. 3, taking $3,500.
Workers at the eatery, which is between E. 23rd and E. 24th streets, said that they closed for the night at 7 pm. Over the night someone forced a back window and rifled through the cash register and two boxes.
ID swipe
A thief palmed a Port Authority ID on Feb. 3 after he broke into a 2010 Honda Accord parked on E. 22nd Street.
The car was sitting parked in the driveway of a home between Voorhies Avenue and Shore Parkway at 5 pm when the thief entered the vehicle — which was accidentally left unlocked.
Cabbie bruisers busted
A young couple was arrested on Jan. 27 after dining and ducking from a Sheepshead Bay Applebee’s, then jumping a cabbie they flagged down to take them from the scene.
Employees at the Knapp Street restaurant said that the 20-year-old man and the 21-year-old woman ordered food, but fled without paying for it.
They then flagged down a cab driver, who they attacked on Ralph Avenue between Glenwood and Farragut roads.
In between punches, the cabbie begged the couple not to hurt him and offered them money, said police, who arrested the couple a short time later.
Headphone grab
A quick-moving thug ripped a pair of pricey headphones from a 16-year-old’s head during an confrontation on Gravesend Neck Road.
The victim was nearing E. 22nd Street just before 10 am when the thief ran up behind him and plucked the $200 headphones off his head.
When the victim balked, the thief reached into his pocket as if he had a gun and screamed, “Do you want to get shot?”
Cell grab
A sticky-fingered goon made off with a 60-year-old man’s Blackberry cellphone on Jan. 30 as his victim partied at the club Nirvana on Coney Island Avenue.
The victim said he was hanging out at the hot spot near Avenue U at 1:30 am when he put his phone on the table. He then turned to speak to a friend — giving the thief enough time to snag it, the victim told police.
