When the weekend rolls around, some people pull cash out of their banks with their ATM cards.
Others go right up to the tellers, armed with threatening notes.
Three area banks were robbed of thousands this past weekend, all by note-passing bandits, officials said.
Cops are looking into the possibility that at least two of the robberies were committed by the same suspect, a tall black male who threatened to “start shooting” if he didn’t get everything he wanted.
Officials said that the spree started at 5:40 p.m. on June 27 when the 5’9” thief entered the Washington Mutual Savings Bank on Ocean Avenue at Avenue U and passed a note claiming that he had a gun.
“You have three seconds to hand over the money or I start shooting,” the suspect wrote.
Police said that the thief fled the bank with $2000.
The next morning, another bank robber, this one described as a white male, entered the Commerce Bank at 1602 Avenue U at 8:35 a.m.
The thief reportedly wrote his note demanding $10,000 on a dollar bill, officials said.
The teller handed the thief nearly $3,000, officials said.
A few hours later, just before noon, a man resembling the thief from Friday’s robbery entered the Sovereign Bank at 961 Kings Highway, where another threatening note was passed.
“Give me back the note and the money or I’ll start shooting,” he warned.
It was unclear if any money was taken from the third heist.
Police said that no injuries were reported in any of these robberies.
