Police arrested a knife-wielding man they said swiped 50 prescription sleeping pills from a Kings Highway drug store on April 2 — then wolfed down the pills before escaping in some bizarre suicide bid.
A store employee told responding officers from the 62nd Precinct that she was inside the pharmacy between Stillwell Avenue and the Bay Parkway at 1:20 pm when the crook entered the store and asked for some sleeping pills. But the pharmacist refused, saying the suspect didn’t have a prescription.
Angered, the man left empty-handed — but he wasn’t gone long.
Police say he returned a few minutes later, this time drawing a knife while demanding the drugs. The victim handed over a bottle containing 50 Endocet sleeping pills, which the suspect gulped down before fleeing.
Cops found the thief a few blocks away beneath a van parked on West 12th Street. He had apparently slit his own throat, but was alive, according to the New York Post.
The suspect was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition, said police, who plan to charge him with robbery once he recovers.
