OLPH students ring in the holiday season with festive tree lighting

Residents of Bay Ridge and Sunset Park enjoyed a festive dose of holiday cheer as students from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School, under the musical direction of Henry Diaz, participated in the Sunset Park Business Improvement District’s annual tree lighting ceremony in front of the OLPH Basilica, 60th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Dressed in their finest wintery plaid, approximately 60 students, in grades three through eight, accompanied by church organist Joe Giordano, andDiaz, on guitar, sang heartwarming Christmas songs, after which time Sunset Park BID Executive Director Renee Giordano invited the OLPH eighth graders to officially light the 18-foot tall tree.

The Sunset Park BID Holiday Tree remains lit every night until Three Kings Day in January.
