Cyclones 2
Renegades 8
Monday, Aug. 23 at Hudson Valley
This was just a disaster from the get-go, with the Renegades putting up a six-spot in the first inning and coasting to an easy victory.
Starter Yohan Almonte (7–4, 2.23 ERA) was uncharacteristically wild, giving up three singles in a row, than a double, and two more singles before getting out of the inning.
The fun really started in the fourth, when Jeff Flagg hit what umpires called a ground-rule double — and manager Wally Backman was ejected for arguing the call.
Joe Bonfe then singled, knocking in the team’s only two runs.
The Cyclones are still 10 games in first place, with just 14 left to play.
