Pint−sized kids; big hearts

Newly coiffed cuties Jordan Pittari (left) and pal Ashley Gallo, both 6, clipped their way into the hearts of underprivileged and ailing peers by lopping off their long tresses and donating their gleaming manes to Locks of Love, which makes hairpieces for children.

Jordan and Ashley, who attend Public School 58 at 330 Smith Street, were spurred to action by a similar donation made last year by Ashley’s older sister.

“It was heartwarming to see how proud the girls felt knowing that they were able to help people less fortunate than themselves,” said Marie Hueston, whose son is the girls’ classmate.

The donated locks will benefit children who have lost their hair due to such dermatological conditions as alopecia areata, from severe burns or radiation treatment.

Since its inception in 1997, Locks of Love has helped thousands of children reclaim their lives. Youngsters comprise more than 80 percent of the donors, making it a charity where children have an opportunity to help other youngsters in need.
