PS 255 students help the homeless

In response to Chancellor Klein’s Community Service Initiative, students from Public School 255 have taken on the responsibility of providing essential items to a local homeless shelter.

Students, parents, and staffmembers have decided to consider the needs of others in difficult circumstances, and are going to try to provide different types of amenities each month. This month, families were requested to send in boxed cereals and foods.

The outpouring of compassion and concern was evident as the PS 255 community filled box after box with donated items, and young children coming in to school with a “gift” for someone they don’t even know.

Members of the school community are also making collections to donate to the people of Haiti, in the wake of the massive earthquake.

PS 255 is located at 1866 East 17th Street in Homecrest.
