Runners rumble thru Coney Island

Close to 10,000 runners pounded the wooden warrior at Coney Island, joyously, culminating the New York Road Runners Half−Marathon Grand Prix, which began at Prospect Park and ended at Coney’s famous Riegelmann Boardwalk.

The 13.1−mile run, presented by Continental Airlines, took participants on a brand new course, traveling to the amusement destination via Ocean Parkway, for a day of family−friendly activitities, including children’s races at KeySpan Park, 1904 Surf Avenue.

Also new this year were special discounts offered to runners and spectators from 29 participating Coney Island shops, restaurants and attractions.

Hector Rivera won the men’s category while Heidi Hollander swept the competition in the women’s race.
