If I were a senator, I would…
Champ scribes received glowing words of praise, plus kudos galore, during an awards ceremony hailing winners of a writing contest sponsored by State Senator Marty Golden.
More than 1,000 pupils in Districts 20, 21 and 22 were invited to pen 250-word essays, beginning with the phrase, “If I were a State Senator for a Day…” and addressing community issues, including public safety, park improvements, educational needs and traffic concerns.
The winners, who were feted at the Knights of Columbus, 1305 86th Street, were: Marie Frolic, sixth grade, Our Lady of Guadalupe School, 1520 72nd Street; Justin Lang, seventh grade, PS/IS 238, 1633 East 8th Street; and Amy Elsayed, eighth grade, Intermediate School 259, 7301 Fort Hamilton Parkway.
The triumvirate will travel to Albany with State Senator Marty Golden, who is a member of the Senate Committee on Education, to see the legislative process in action.
