Ferdinando’s Focacceria

Open since 1904, Ferdinando’s serves traditional Sicilian dishes, such as “calamari ripieni” — stuffed baby calamari with boiled eggs, cheese and garlic. Try chef and owner Francesco Buffa’s specialty focaccia, or “panelle,” a deep-fried chickpea flour pancake topped with ricotta and grated romano cheese. Other dishes include octopus marinated in garlic and lemon; “caponatina” (eggplant salad with tomato sauce, olives, capers, vinegar and celery); and what Buffa says is the “best dish,” “pasta con le sarde” — pasta topped with sardines, fennel and onions in a tomato sauce. Open Monday-Thursday, 11:00 am-8:00 pm,

Friday-Saturday, 11:00 am-10:00 pm. Closed Sundays. Backyard seating available on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting.
