The Mad Hatter chummed around with a ghoulie while a ghostie hobnobbed with a witch, all of them gleefully falling in step with other trick or treaters kooked up in Coney Island for the calendar’s most spooktacular weekend.
Hundreds of excited youngsters arrived dressed to thrill for the nabe’s first kiddie Halloween parade on Saturday, hop-skip-and-jumping along the Riegelmann Boardwalk, making it rrrr-attle beneath the pitter-patter of tiny feet as the phant-erific bunch bobbed like a human ribbon from behind the MCU Stadium at W. 19th Street and Surf Avenue to Luna Park on W. 10th Street across from the Cyclone Rollercoaster for finishing festivities.
There was plenty of eye candy to spy. Bensonhurst reveler Cassidy Schultz came in pretty fairy garb, while Mariah Perez of Bay Ridge spellbound as a witch. A cloth boa constrictor clinging to the neck of “snake charmer” Melady Acevedo drew giggles from spectators who reserved their fears for the scary wolf mask donned by Ender Senner of Kings Highway, and Adem Crnovrsanin’s nerve-splitting fin head, which terrified tremulous thrill seekers Vaniece Washington and Saqniyah Pierre-Paul who gave the critter a once over before howling up a storm.
Thank heavens that Gotham gladiator Superman — known to loved ones as Christian McCarthy — was around to save the day, which incidentally was hosted by Councilman Domenic Recchia (D-Coney Island) who came dressed as a politician.
Five-year-old Francis Goldblatt won “Most Creative” in his age group with his homemade Luna Ranger costume, a crowd-pleasing concoction of strobe lights complete with a jet pack.
