St. Saviour recaps season; looks to next year

The St. Saviour High School fall sports teams have just completed their seasons and although no championships were won the teams showed great promise for next year.

The Varsity Tennis Team had the most success, finishing with a 9-3 overall league record for third place in the Brooklyn/Queens Division and the unofficial title of Brooklyn champs having defeated both Bishop Kearney and Fontbonne Hall Academy. The team lost in the playoffs to second seed, The Mary Louis Academy, by a score of 3-2.

All of the key Panda players — co-captains Caitlin Carberry and Hannah Talisse, along with freshman Danielle Toro — are returningnext season, which makes the team’s success look very promising.

The Varsity Soccer Team finished the regular season with a 3-7-2 record, which was good for third place in the Brooklyn Division, and are awaiting the outcome of other games to determine playoff positioning. The team was led again this year by junior Maggie Coughlin, and seniors Emily Bowen, Emily Willis, Alexis Liz, Nicole Juliano, Brittany Delaney and Diana delosSantos.

Although the team will be losing a number of seniors, the underclassmen gained valuable experience and look forward to improve on this year’s record when the time comes.

The Varsity Volleyball Team, which struggled most of the year because of an influx of new players, slowly improved as the season progressed. The inexperienced players gained valuable playing time, which hopefully will translate into a much improved and competitive team in the years to come.

The team this year was led by returning players Alyson Caiazzo and Gabriella DiGiacomo. In addition to those two players, next year’s squad will need to rely on Topazio Ramirez, Johanna Arasin, Nicole Caraballo, Cassandra Nasta, Maureen Sullivan and Elizabeth Texeira.

As the winter sports begin, the Varsity Swim Team has begun their season and, although undermanned in a tough A Division, has held their own and sport an early record of 1-1. The team is led by seniors Diana delos Santos, Amber Rizzo, Dominique Santo and Emily Willis. Also helping the Pandas are junior Maggie Coughlin; sophomores Ali Ayoub, Meagan Freeze, Corinne Kelly, and Taylor Powers; and lone freshman Julia Dineen.

St. Saviour High School is located at 588 Sixth Street in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn.
