World Wrestling Entertainment’s brightest stars will grapple on the softball diamond with New York’s finest and bravest at MCU Park.
A pre-game Celebrity-Civil Servants All-Star Challenge and softball game prior to the Brooklyn Cyclones’ 7:00 pm game against the Lowell Spinners on Aug. 19 is part of SummerSlam Night. The event kicks off Brooklyn’s celebration of Barclays Center playing host to SummerSlam — the wrestling league’s second-biggest show of the year — on Aug. 23.
WWE Superstars and Divas, including intercontinental champion Ryback, Fandango, Eva Marie, and Charlotte — the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair — will take on members of the city’s fire and police departments, and other celebrities.
Current St. John’s men’s basketball coach and basketball Hall of Famer Chris Mullin, Mets Hall of Famer John Franco, and “Good Day New York” hosts Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto will also be on hand.
The first 2,500 fans into the ballpark will receive a Greg and Rosanna bobble head courtesy of Municipal Credit Union.
The WWE Superstars and Divas will also take part in a pre-game autograph session for fans, with giveaways and prizes courtesy of the wrestling league and Tapout.
It is the start of a huge weekend of wrestling events in Brooklyn and Barclays Center. Superstars meet-and-greets take place on Aug. 21–22. “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn” bodyslams into Barclays Center on Aug. 23, is highlighted by the NXT Championship rematch between titleholder Finn Balor and former champ Kevin Owens.
Everything culminates with SummerSlam, the wrestling league’s first pay-per-view show since the recent death of the legendary Rowdy Roddy Piper at the age of 61. Brooklyn fans will be treated to a main event featuring The Beast Brock Lesner taking on the Undertaker, who is looking to avenge his Wrestlemania XXX defeat.
