Two people were hospitalized after a harrowing car accident in Floyd Bennett Field that could have been sparked by drag racing. Officials said that the two vehicles, both 2006 Infinitis, were driving through the defunct base at 9:30 p.m. on August 23 when one of the cars slammed into the other. One vehicle veered out of control upon impact, flipped over and landed in a crumpled heap on the side of the road. It took paramedics upwards of 45 minutes to extricate the two 18-year-old victims. One was taken to Lutheran Medical Center in serious but stable condition. The other was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition. The two men in the other vehicle were not injured, officials said. No arrests were made, although the incident is still under investigation.
